…and the number has been rising quickly in recent years. And that’s only the paid illegal streams. Add those using free illegal streams and the number easily exceeds 1 MILLION people in Switzerland. More than 1 million people exposed to the risks of illegal streaming.

But the impact goes beyond the users themselves. Every franc flowing to illegal providers is money missing from the legitimate Swiss sports and entertainment ecosystem and wider economy.

Why? Because most networks behind illegal streaming operate from abroad. That means less revenue for Swiss clubs, leagues, and broadcasters to invest in the future of Swiss sport and entertainment content, fewer economic opportunities and jobs supported in Switzerland, and less tax revenue for the government.

What is illegal streaming?

Illegal IPTV services redistribute TV channels, live sports and other content without the rights to do so.
Users usually access this content through an app, website, social-media links or a set-top box, often for a very low price or even free.
Behind the simple interface, the service is operated by criminals.

How do I recognise illegal streaming options?

There’s no single sign that proves a streaming service is illegal. But be cautious if an offer:

Promises thousands of channels, movies and live sports for an unusually low price.
Offers content that normally requires several paid subscriptions, all in one package.
Doesn’t clearly identify the company behind the service or provide proper contact details, such as an imprint.
Asks you to install unknown apps, APKs or software on your device.
Uses suspicious websites, pop-ups, redirects or payment methods (e.g. cryptocurrencies, vouchers or direct transfers).
Offers access to premium content that is not normally available in your country or on that platform.
No official customer support channels available (usually only a whatsapp contact)
